Pontefract, West Yorkshire — Round 4 and 5 of the MSA Toyo Tires British Rallycross championship saw Craig Lomax and his XtremeRX team make the journey south to the newly re-developed Pembrey circuit in South Wales.
Saturday would see the circuit run in reverse direction on the newly re-developed tight and twisty Welsh circuit. The hottest day of 2018 kept the track conditions dry and very dusty, which didn’t faze the Joyce Design backed driver as he recorded a forth and second in the overall standings after qualifying 1 and 2 respectively. He made a great start from the middle of the front of the grid for Q3 but after contact on the long sweeping first corner damaged his steering forcing him to retire from the race. Lomax had still done enough to secure a second row start in the final. He made a great start and entered the first corner avoiding any contact and looking to challenge for places. After opting to take his joker lap early on he generated some clean air to make up time and leaped frogged into third position earning him his forth podium finish of the year.
For Round 5 on the Sunday the conditions were similar and Lomax was looking to pick up where he left off on the previous day after a DNF in Q1 due to a broken CV. Once back out on track he started to show the form and started to record faster and faster times eventually recording a 7th and a 4th for Q2 and Q3 respectively at the intermediate classification point placing him in 8th overall place. The team were working hard battling against the hot and dusty conditions trying to maintain power and consistency. Lomax produced some of his best driving of the year to secure his place in the final. After experiencing set-up problems Lomax brought the car home in 7th spot. At the 2018 seasons mid-point Lomax sits in a commanding position leading the Super1600 championship.
The championship will make its second visit to Lomax’s home circuit of Croft in North Yorkshire on 29th July. Track action gets underway at 09:00.
Craig Lomax, #24:

“Wow, a tough and challenging weekend! Not only was the new track layout tight and technical but the weather was relentless! The team gave 110% this weekend and I cannot ask for more. We are in a great position now and can hopefully make a push for the title in the second part of the season.”
